Excellent Ruling

The woman attacked by the so-called Lotto rapist looks almost certain to have won her landmark legal fight for compensation from his winnings in the House of Lords after a positive indication from the law lords.

Re: Excellent Ruling

Tough one this Col. Why I agree to the specifics of this case, it would be worrying that court sentences can be changed at a later date to suit a change in circumstances.

Spot on.

he was already paying for his crime when he won the money, if they think the sentence of xx years was'nt enough that he now has to pay a "fine", then they should've stuck more years on his sentence.

Also, there was no law that states whilst he was out on Training For Freedom he cannot buy a lottery ticket, they are now moving the goalposts to cover an inadequacy in the law.

thats what i dont get, if there is no law against it why is she trying to get money, he has commited the crime and is serving his time, unless she is finatial difficulties is the money really going to make a difference?

My worry is, how far they would go with a tactic like this. To what extent would the law courts be able to allow you to be sentenced twice/thrice for a crime you have committed.
