I agree , I wish that Christmas was only December. It's losing it magic more every year for me.

thats the annoying thing, they are only ruining it for us, i used to work for safeways and hated it at christmans time because of this and i feel dorry for staff in shooping centres big time

You think that's bad. Scotmid at Tollcross had Christmas cards and Christmas paper at the checkouts on....wait for it.......September 21st!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember it clearly. More than 3 feckin' months before the event!! As another poster said, it should only be allowed from 1st December. What's next? Easter eggs in January?

I dont know if it is just my age , but a number of things makes Christmastime feel different for me, and I have a 13,12 and 9 year old, so it's not as though I am not seeing it through a kids eyes. Here's a few thoughts.

1. Multiple TV channels - When I was a kid we only had 3. Now you can have "Christmas day" type viewing (Blockbuster movies et al) every day of the week.

2. No new X-Mas songs - The last one of any note was Maria Careys in 1995! Even so, our traditional fare dates from the 70's and early 80's. Hence, we are sick of what we are hearing through repeatition.

3. Global warming - When was the last time we really got x-mas type weather in East Central Scotland? Most Christmases nowadays, all ye need is a light jacket, even at night.

4. Consumerism - We usually no longer wait until X-Mas to get our kids the stuff they nag us about, and as a 40 yo I take the blame for that! It's the bloody rat race that makes you feel that your kids should not be different from their pals!!!

Many more reasons as well I assume..

IIRC, Germany doesn't allow the shops/towns etc to put the decorations out until the first Monday of Advent(not necessarily 1/12).

Then all the local markets put on a fantastic spectacle which helps to get you in the mood for chrimbo , mmmmmmmmmmmm GluhWein
