There have been at least five accidents involving the ponds - described by Miralles as "a pleasant background for the public, helping security as well".They include a visitor who suffered broken ribs after falling into one of the ponds while reading a text message on a mobile phone and an MSP who accidentally stepped back into a pond while taking a photograph.

Darwin in action!!!

What an over-reaction.

Re: Parliamentary Ponds

Ridiculous. So now we have a glorified car park surface outside the parliament. Hopefully flowerbeds or wooden platforms or something could be put in. They already have crash barriers in case any driver were to 'plunge' over the kerb, or a pedestrian were to fall in and drown. So what has Margo McDonald suggested turning it into? A bigger Bus Stop. Aye Margo, that's what he need to improve the look of the place and make it an internationally famous vista. A bigger Bus Stop. If you didn't laugh, you'd cry.........

Also - how on earth does it cost £75,000 a year? £206 PER DAY in maintenance? Totally shocking IMO.

I bumped into a tree once because I was reading the ingredients list on my mars bar and grazed my nose

I think they should remove all trees from wherever I might walk

Maybe Mars should remove all writing from their packaging if it is likely to distract someone and cause them to have an accident?

Or all trees could have thick cushioning foam wrapped round them so you won't hurt yourself if you walk into one?

Extend the padding to cover a three metre area round the base of the tree and it might work

I would like all forms of alcohol to be issued with massive foam suits as every time I'm involved with them I wake up with massive bruises.

Agreed. And the government should also provide android drinking buddies who consume exactly the same as you, except three drinks ahead. Just so you can see what a tit you're about to make of yourself.
