Now, I will admit I know nothing much about rugby but it strikes me that England only have one player who can win them games (Wilkinson) and he is injury prone Why didn't the French cripple the bugger in the first 5 minutes and they would walk the game?

Because they would have brought Flood on earlier and he's a much better stand off than Wilko, plus he has a better distance on his kick and is more accurate at longer distance kicks. AND if they had brought Flood on for Wilko then Andrews would have had to admit to making a mistake in not picking him in the first place

Exactly what are you basing that on?

My only gripe is with the English media - who over talk everything.........however every nation is the exact same RE: I'm very happy Scotland are doing well in the footy as its long overdue but the Scottish media is playing them up till dawn too - also if anyone watched France Vs New Zealand last week and listened to the NZ commentator on ITV he was a grade A bell. I want all the home nations to do well.

It was a scrappy game and Wilkonson wasnt in it until his two kicks in the last 10mins - yet England did all the ugly stuff well and took it to the French. However I think Argentina are gonna win it this year - their scrum and turn over % is top class......mark my words tomorrows game could be match of the Tournament!

Difference is Scots media is restricted to Scotland wheras the English media rams it down our throats as well as the intended audience.

Agree with you re Argentina, theyve been consistent and against a tempremental Boks side ( great against England, stuttered against Tonga and Fiji) I think theyll make the final.

Look, its a physical game, I was only asking a question as to why it wouldn't be a tactic to try and remove someone like him, who is rather delicate, from the game - I wasn't suggesting it or recommending it. If you don't accept my explanation, there's nothing more I can say.

NZ tried that against France last weekend on Betzen and it backfired spectacularly, Harinordoquay was a better option when he came on.

FWIW Col I tend to agree with what you said(and know that you don't mean to cause permanent physical harm but enough to put him out that match), England employed a very similar tactic against France in the 91 RWC when they were up against Serge Blanco. First option, high ball, the pack hit the full back as a 7, Blanco comes out the other side and the last member gives him a shoeing on the way out the ruck.

I don't know why you think that!

The Commentator you refer to was Murray Mexted I believe, in my opinion he was very good and honest in his summary. As far as I can remember he was unhappy with the ABs but even more annoyed with the French try and he didn't pull any punches when criticising it (he was right, there were 2 forward passes in that movement) he was also pretty scathing towards the young English Ref when he sin binned McCallister for taking out a player off the ball, again it was open for debate. I like the Summariser in the commentary team to voice his opinions and tell stories or give examples and to me that's what he done.

Incidentally Mexted is a former All Black Captain who didn't miss a test match between 1979 and 1985 so I'd tend to think he knows a bit about his subject matter.

Oh, how I laughed at that!

It put me in mind of Umaga and Mealamu doing O'Driscoll on the Lions Tour and left me wondering how they manage to get away with it.

Glad it back fired on them this time, cynical!
