Scotland club co-efficient

How well do we need the Infirm to do this year to get the Scottish representation up by an extra club in the Uefa cup?

I hate both of the Bigot brothers with a vengeance, however if their exploits were to directly help other clubs in Scotland it might soften the blow if they were to actually qualify from the group stages.

Does anyone know the actual situation in terms of placings/points etc?

They'd have to get to 8th to get us more places, but it would be 2 more, not 1, so 2 CL + 4 UEFA.

1 - club co-efficient works for 2 years in advance. Thus what we achieves this year, helps the number of entrants we get in season 2009/2010. I.e. what clubs are competing for in leagues/cups in 08/09.

2 - we can't get 1 more UEFA Cup place, it goes straight up from 2 to 4. And all in the First Round too.

3 - Celtic's UEFA Cup Final run drops off at the end of this season. To match it (i.e. tread water) we need Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen to record 5 wins and 1 draw in their remaining 12 games. Each win is worth 2 points and each draw is worth 1 point. However, making the KO rounds can get you the odd bonus point or two for each round, so we can afford to have less wins, more draws etc. if one or more of them make it to KO rounds.

4 - treading water may not sound like progress, but if countries like Russia, Portugal, Greece, Romania all perform worse (and a lot of them don't have many teams left) they may actually be losing points while we're not gaining or losing. However, I think we need a couple of seasons consistency to get more slots.

5 - Dunfermline contributed only 1 point this season. Rangers have contributed 10.5 points already. FFS.
