Election to be called for 1st November

Trust me on this, me and big Gordy are bestest of buddies.

So who's every one going to vote for? I'm naive in the extreme when it comes to politics and don't usualy vote. Due to Union sensibilities I'll probably vote Labour this year. As long as it's not raining.

Thoughts? I'd do a poll if I knew how. (Not much to it actually, is there?)

You might have at least added the SNP and the Lib Dems. It is not as if we only have a choice of haud it or daud it and keep in mind the SNP are the government.

Me, I will be voting to put Scotland First by voting for Scotland's party, The SNP.

In a UK election we're voting for a UK Government.

It's either Tory or Labour.

IMHO the past 10 years have been pretty good overall so it's Labour for me.

Not quite Kenny. Both labour and Tory have said that if Scotland elects a majority of SNP MP's that will be considered a mandate for independence.

I will be voting SNP as a clear demonstration of my wish and desire for Scottish Independence.

Like in previous UK General Elections in 2005 & 2001 i suspect the SNP vote will collapse with us now having a Scottish Parliament.

Although Salmond may benefit from his undeserved (IMO) honeymoon..

Re: Election to be called for 1st November

Independence is never going to happen in any of our lifetimes, and the SNP are just an arrogant irritant that should never be in charge of our Country.

I mean, has anyone at all been impressed by their performance since the Scottish elections in May? As for their presence and performance on the Edinburgh City Council with the Lib Dems; our city is doomed! Personally, I can't wait for a Scottish "Government" by-election in a vulnerable SNP seat so that the power swings back to Labour.

As for a general election, get used to it people, we are all part of the Union, and it is never going to change. Election result after election result is proof of this.

I used to be an independence romantic when I was about 18, but the novelty soon wore off. Romance turned to realism and I would never waste a vote on the SNP.

Correct. That's why you find they are listed as 'Scotland's Party' on this poll.

Me too.

And also because I want the SNP presence at Westminster to have a say in the really important matters that affect Scotland that aren't devolved -the matters that other countries deal with as a matter of course such as defence, foreign policy, fiscal policy and employment legislation among others.

Scotland first.

Well let's wait and see Kenny however recent opinion polls are suggesting a swing to the SNP for the next Westminster election.

It is what is said on the tin. Put Scotland first. The problem for you Kenny is that economic policy is made in London to suit the interests of the UK economy. We desire a completely different policy response to suit our needs. Our economy is achieving much below its productive potential. That is why labour will take their lead from London, ergo London Labour whilst we choose to put Scottish interests first.

Let me ask you a question. Do you think for one minute that an independent Scotland would want nuclear weapons on the Clyde? Answer on the back of a postage stamp to G Brown heid bummer of new bwitain.

What an arrogant thing to say.It is up to the people of Scotland to decide. You amy have an opinion on the subject but unless you have a supreme ability of the second sight how you can say this beggars belief.

I wouldn't be so sure. Sounds like a statement from another era to be honest. About 15 years ago I probably thought the same even when I was marching the hope of getting a parliament. But a lot has changed in the Scottish political climate in a short time. Not so long ago people could have confidently predicted that a Scottish parliament (and especially one with an SNP-led admisnistration) would never happen but it has. I see a lot of changes in Scotland in a decade or so and notice more and more whenever I come back home. And by the way, I'd only describe myself as lukewarm about independence these days in case anyone thinks this is just wishful thinking.

I can't see a swing back to Labour up here in years lads. Dour Wendy Alexander is the modern day version of John Major.

Little or no chance of a November election btw. Poll out tomorrow in the Guardian has Labour with only a 1% lead.

Re: Election to be called for 1st November

I still don't think there will be an election this year..

Brown would be off his heid to call an election so early into his leadership when he has just over two years to go anyway.

I'd go along with that. Would be a big and unnecessary gamble. Plain daft in fact given that poll mentioned above.

By stalling he has made a big mistake. The financial forecasts are suggesting a recession is just around the corner and governments rarely win when the economy hits people in the pooch.

That's why Major won in 1992?
