What results do we need to qualify?

Out of the remaining games, we officially need 7 points to qualify.

I think we need to beat Georgia away and Italy at home as this is the '6 pointer'. I suspect France will still qualify and the other place is between us and Italy. What do you think we need? Who will drop points on the run-in?

A victory against both Ukraine and Georgia and a draw against the Italians should see us through but lets just wait and see.

If France or Italy drop points in the highlighted games we'd get away with less than 7 points

Re: What results do we need to qualify?

Guys,

Our games in the run in are very difficult.... Which, IMO , Is just what we need!!

If we had France or Italy's run in the pressure would be on us, and how many times do we bugger things up against "Smaller" Nations? ...

We are going into all these games fired up , every one a cup final. That's what we excel at ( Holland 1978, Sweden 1990, Switzerland 1996, Norway 1998 et al) .

I still think our achievement in this group is incredible, even if we dont manage to qualify. The most important thing for me is that this type of draw never happens again, as we go up the FIFA rankings.

or a draw at Hampden v Italy and a draw for France in the Ukraine, the evening of 21/11 looks like its gonna be nerve wracking. we should be lookin to go to Georgia and win now.

whether we get through or not its been a great campaign with plenty excitement ahead, well done to all involved.

are there not slots available for the best of the losers? If so then we would have a chance of scraping though the back door if we didnt qualify of right.

Anyway 3 wins out of 3 games coming up - nobody can stop us...

Aye, highly impressive regardless of how it ends. Scotland have just beat the World Cup finalists home and away which imo are about the best results that Scotland have had in my lifetime.

Even if qualification doesn't happen at least the results should mean that a higher seeding and therefore a slightly easier group will be there for the WC qualifiers.

Nah, top two only from every group. Having it in your own hands with three games to go from this group is an absolutely stunning achievement imo.

Re: What results do we need to qualify?

7 points and we will qualify

6 points and we would need to get 3 of them v Italy to qualify

5 points or less and we will almost certainly not qualify

Bearing in mind Lithuania, Georgia and Faroes have nothing to play for - the only game I can see being of dubious certainty is Ukraine v France. When we're already finished, and Ukraine will have nothing to play for. If we can go into the Italy game with a chance of qualifying on the day - great.

Re: What results do we need to qualify?

We win all three games and qualify as group leaders. It's that simple.

Also England get humped by Russia and Croatia and our national spokesman McGlashan then gets an entire board on bounce to let rip at them. Simple.

Re: What results do we need to qualify?

It will come undone either against Ukraine or Georgia. I really hope there is still a shout come Italy in November but I can't for the life of me see us pick up 7 points. In the reverse earlier in the campaign we came out with 3 points from those three teams. And that was a scraped 1-0 win.

We'll see. We'll hope.

This is why we prophets of doom appear, Scotland beat the best twice home and away, but your gut feeling has that Iran twitch. I hope for once we address the glorious failure tag. The country has had a wee happy injection boost and the passion is creeping back.
