Earthquake and Tsunami ?
An earthquake measuring approx 7.5 on the richter scale hit of the coast of Summatra last night, they have issued a tsunami warning in the surrounding countries. I remember Aceh earthquake being measured at 9.0, does there have to be a certain magnitude of earthquake to create a tsunumi ? Probably issuing a warning now to get most folk inland, but some i'm sure will be afraid to give up their homes and possesions.
Powerful quake shakes Indonesia

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami ?
When I lived in West Java (about 100 miles south east of Sumatra), we experienced a 7.2 scale earthquake. It is the strangest of sensations. You feel as if the ground is moving all around you, then afterwards, when you work out what has happened, there is a strange heavy/ humid feel to the atmosphere, giving most people headaches.
Everytime I hear of an Indonesia earthquake I think of all my friends who still live there and the potential danger they are in. |
