Did anyone watching the Manchester derby....

hear the City fans at one point in the second half singing "Who's the fenian in the black"? I thought my ears were deceiving me but I can't think of any words or nicknames Man Utd have that sound familiar??

Re: Did anyone watching the Manchester derby....

Highly unlikely.
I've been to see City a few times and have never noticed any of that stuff thankfully.

Seen a few Irish flags in the City end too over the years as like Liverpool, Everton and United they have a significant Irish support with official supporters club branches in Dublin, Belfast, Dundalk, Cork, Coleraine, Cookstown, Wicklow for starters.

So very unlikely although they do have some nice abusive terms for Manchester United types, this may have been what you heard.

Thats why I was so surprised I know Man Utd have a huge Irish following didn't think it was an issue down there though.

That is a disgrace. Guarantee that City say it's "a minority". Complete and utter pish. They should be fined, or better still, the supporters who sung it banned for life.

there is an ongoing problem at city with decent fans trying to shoutdown the "minority" who refer to man utd fans as munichs. leeds and liverpool refer to them in the same way and have some horrendous "songs" about the munich disaster.united fans are no angels either with "citys going down like a russian submarine" amongst others.

Re: Did anyone watching the Manchester derby....

I travel down to Old Trafford quite regulary. The most hatred is the games with Liverpool. Utd look at City the way Hibs fans look at Livi for example.

The Manc derbies are of course volatile but not as much as games against Liverpool or Leeds. City fans detest Utd but Utd have a patronising big team wee team attitude towards them.

very true. ive always seen liverpool utd as much bigger in terms of sheer hatred (for the dirty manc bastards) then any other game.

interesting that liverpool everton is similar i.e. liverpool fans have little contempt for evertonians....not surprising considering how many wools populate anfield mind

It is a minority - most City fans refer to United as Rags (this word is usually linked with the word bastard) not Munichs and furthermore lets not paint United as the poor wee innocent party - they're not, far from it. Both Manc clubs have chanted some pretty distateful stuff at each other.

Although Liverpool really plumbed the dregs when some of their fans threw human excrement at United fans last season.

Anyway, well done City on in the Derby game.
