Association football was first codified in England but there is evidence that it existed as a passing game 600 years ago in Aberdeen, so it could be Scottish. We have made even less of an impact on world football, though.

I have to say Warner's lack of objectivity on this issue is nothing short of a disgrace.

He does have vested interests (http://www.concacaf.com/), not sure why he thought saying this was a good idea. Can't see why England or even Britain shouldn't be up for holding the world cup I reckon it'd be quality.

They can be up for it all they want. Blatter was elected with worldwide support because he said the WC would be rotated around different continents with Europe not getting it every 8 years as has been the case previously. In other words it won't be supported by FIFA while Blatter is in charge, and anyone who wants to be elected in his place will have to rely on the non European vote who will be demanding the exact same thing.

The next few WCs will be S Africa, Brazil, US/Canada/Mexico (could actually see Canada getting it if they want tbh) China/Australia, then a European country which is as likely to be Italy or Spain as England. So it will be 2026 if at all.

i think the world cup should be held in england/uk they have some of the best stadiums in the world and i thought euro 96 was the last good tournament held

I thought Euro 96 was pretty poor with ticketing feck ups leading to loads of matches not selling out including Scotland games.

Personally I really hope they don't have the world cup here. And, as Al points out, it's highly unlikely.

I'd love to see the tournmament in england for purely personal reasons however if it could be anywhere spain would be top of the list for me. It's also true that england and the english people are universally despised.

With the exception of Brazil another list of countries who have done nothing much for world football and have achieved less than England. I don't follow the logic that the WC should be circulated around minnows.

Blatter's also into women's fitbaw, as long as they wear skimpy outfits. He sounds like a tube to me.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a specious argument he's making. And if World Cups were awarded on the basis of achievements in international football then it would only ever be held in Argentina, Italy, West Germany, Uruguay, and Brazil since they are the only teams to have ever won the WC outside their own countries. And if you want to talk about getting a raw deal, there has been 1 World Cup in South America in my lifetime despite teams from there having won it more than sides from Europe (held 4 times here)...

The point of the World Cup is not just to award it to succesful countries though, it is to promote the game. If it was given out to countries which would be guaranteed to organise it best, get fantastic looking stadiums, and do it on or under budget then you would just give it to Germany in perpetuity.

The corporate stuff and facilities in grounds in England I dare say are fantastic, but where on earth that means "fantastic grounds" I have no idea. Most of them look like bus shelters. No aesthetic effort has been put into them at all imo. The new Wembley, Emirates, and potentially Liverpools new ground are okay in that regard, but I suspect strongly that in 10 years the likes of St James, Riverside, City of Light, Old Trafford, Pride Park etc etc will all look pretty crap. Ironically enough I think if they do get it at some point in the future then it will be places like Goodison which would be the selling point as people want to move away from corporate blandness back to traditional designs...
