Polical Parties

Anyone a member these days?

What do you make of it?

I was in the Greens when I was 16 (like being in the WRVS) and the Labour party in 1990 (was OK and got a bit involved but Uni kept me to busy).

Re: Polical Parties

My Mrs was quite active with the Labour party before they turned Conservative, i trailed behind her an interested spectator. I've still not found one party that i truly believe in, everytime you get involved in a political debate, your accused of being left wing or right wing or middle of the road. I feckin hate that. Can anybody suggest a party that has a little bit of everything that aspires to help all people regardless of position, race, colour, creed. No, i didn't think so. Whats it like being an anarchist. Then again maybe i've not got the energy left for that game.

Re: Polical Parties

First joined the SNP in 1978. Still a member today and have been most of the time apart from the early 1980's when I defected to Labour.

Currently a member of Skye branch SNP which I believe has doubled in membership in the last year..........before any wag suggests not just because me and Mrs B have joined here.

Re: Polical Parties

I was a Labour party member for a few years in the mid 1980's..

I got involved a bit with all the leafleting and knocking on doors before elections etc. I particularly remember the 1987 election. Labour under Kinnock were never going to get power during that period. I kind of went off the whole thing after a few years, then as the 90's came in I began to see the potential benefits of Scottish independence, however I have never felt strong enough or interested enough to join any political party again.

Re: Polical Parties

I joined the SNP for a few years in the early 90s but lapsed about 96 and never rejoined.

Still vote for them but doubt I would ever consider joining again.

Re: Polical Parties

Was a Labour Party member in the late 90s, sent a membership to the Socialist Environmental Alliance in NI a couple of years (but never heard back!), and would probably consider joining the modern-day Alliance Party in NI.

Re: Polical Parties

Was in the SNP but not anymore, though i still support them. It was okay and i helped out leafleting in the Monklands by-election that Helen Liddle won, but it was pretty close if i remember.
The thing that got to me was the amount of people who had their own 'agenda'. Not just ambition, but a real thing about stopping other people acheive their ambition. Even from the same party. Couldn't be ersed with all the back-bitching so slowly got less involved and i'm now lapsed.

Time to join the SNP GM and help build a new Scotland.
