Subway Sect & TV21 play Citrus Club (Fri 22nd, 7.30)

Anyone else going to this?

Vic Godard and Subway Sect are bona fide legends. They debuted on the same bill as The Clash, Sex Pistols and The Damned at the 100 Club Festival on Sept 20th 1976.

For my money Subway Sect's Ambition was one of the best punk singles ever. Up there with Pretty Vacant, Action Time Vision, and White Man In Hammersmith Palais.

Bands like Nectarine No 9, The Pop Group and Franz Ferdinand have stated their indebtedness to Subway Sect.

Vic Godard was different from so many of his punk peers in that he wrote great indie pop songs (as they'd be called now) that drew from all sorts of influences including lFrank Sinatra/swing music.

The songs on We Oppose All Rock'Roll (1982) have stood the test of time and his sampled-beat album Sansend (2002) showed Godard is not interested in milking punk nostalgia just for the sake of it. He's a musical genius and so many of the indie bands of today couldnae lace Vic's boots.

Should be a memorable night as an appearance of Subway Sect in Scotland is a rare event.

NB Vic Godard is still a postie in London! Fame and fortune passed him by completely.

Wouldn't argue with the fact that Subway Sect were an influential band and were well out of the ordinary. Defo a lot better that that FoS rubbish you were supporting yesterday.

Maybe they'll do a swing version of FoS.

Now that could be interesting as an updated version of the national anthem. Think Vic Godard would have to adapt his accent a bit though. O fle o Scotchland when will we say yo loik again? Just been listening to Don't Split It in myspace. Still sounds good.:YAYYY:
