Since everybody knew that the guy was framed, why has it taken so long to get a review carried out? And what does his 'trial' tell us about the Scottish judicial system?

I think it is a very telling case indeed.

It could tell us as that the guilty verdict in the Netherlands had little to do with justice, that it was decided in advance of the trial, and the poor Libyan guy was just a pawn in international politics.

It would explain why Nelson Mandela came over to Scotland to visit an alleged mass murderer in his prison cell. (I'd love to hear a tape of that discussion).

It could also tell us why Tony Blair realises that there is a real possibility of a miscarriage of justice verdict in the pipeline when Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission is finished its work.

And it could explain why Tony Blair thought he'd nip over to Libya - behind the back of the Scottish governemnt - to try and prise al-Megrahi out of a Scottish jail before the shit hits the fan.

Too bad (for Blair) that Alex Salmond rumbled what was going on.

It also suggests that Scottish judicial system is as corruptable and any other.

It felt like a political show trial at the time.

Maybe crimes of this type should be tried before an international court in The Hague.
