Anybody see the Beeb documentary on Scott last night?

Some fantastic tunes in the early pop period, a lot of darkness and bad dreams and reclusiveness, a lot of avant-garde later on in his own tunes with some amazing lyrics (whatever you thought of them).....

But the voice remains even now!

Wonder when his ship is really gonna come in?

I'm a huge fan of Scott Walker's, his is an incredible voice. I watched the documentary and found it fascinating. Scott is very true to his principles regarding music and whilst I found some of the avante-garde stuff difficult to listen to I respect his creativity and refusal to compromise his art.

His early career with the Walkers Brothers was showcased really well I thought. Those songs and THAT voice still sound as beautiful and timeless as ever.

When I think of the enigma of Scott Walker that line is always the one comes to my mind.

"My ship is coming in"

Scott Walker's ship will always be in in my humble opinion.

There's a far longer version of this film coming out n DVD sometime soon, hope it's got more 60's-70's stuff on it as his last three albums although admirable for pushing the envelope are a bit disturbing, one listening is enough for me. Climate of Hunter hasn't dated all that well, the 60's stuff is untouchable though - what a voice.

I haven't heard anything of the more recent albums apart from what I heard on the documentary but some of the images are in-between brilliant fantasy and dog-eared book fantasy so I don't think I would rush out and buy them.

But many others must have done so as he is still going - and doesn't his voice NOT sound old (compare to listening to any other old groups coming back together, cringe).

One thing struck me: he said "I have many disturbing, frightening dreams. I'm happy to put them into the songs so others realise that's an ok place to be" (ok, maybe not word for word but along those lines.

He has a point. If you can't get rid of the nightmares by expressing them somehow, how else do you live with them?

I will now disappear up my own arse.

A bit of an enigma SW, because he doesn't hang about with muso types he's labelled a "recluse" but from what I hear he's anything but - likes nothing better than a pie, pint and a visit to a football game.

Considering his past, his current work and his reputation he seems pretty un-weird.

was a fairly enjoyable docu

wasn't too sure about them punching the slabs of meat though-doubt that song will get played on the radio much

Didn't see all of it, but what I saw was excellent.

Distinctive voice.


Might try to catch a repeat on BBC3 or something.
