Become an MSP.

Quite how these freeloaders are allowed to pocket the profit from homes they pay absolutely nothing towards is beyond my comprehension. If they need a second residence to conduct official business then fine but surely when they are emptied the home should be vacated for whoever is taking their place or sold off with the profit going to the state.

I agree. They should only profit from the equity they put in. It should be like a shared equity scheme. Maybe the SP could buy flats for MSPs itself and pass them on for a rental to new MSPs

Re: For anyone struggling to get on the housing ladder

It's always operated this way in westminister. I reckon that it will have made millionaires out of more than a few MPs who've held there seats for a few terms.

What do you think Col - say if you entered parliament with Tony in 1997, would it be possible to have made a mill on a central london gaff beside westminster?

Easily. A few of them bought around the Barbican which has shrugged of its unfashionability.

I wonder if any got a house from Dame Shirley Porter in the 80s.

Its fukin scandalous HandC. Not only do they get to keep the profit but we get to pay the conveyencing, council tax, insurance etc etc etc on their behalf. and how this **** can justify a statement like: A Lib Dem spokesman said: "None of the MSPs broke any rules or profited personally." is beyond me.

ALASDAIR MORRISON
PAID: £90,000
VALUED: £245,000
PROFIT: £155,000

EUAN ROBSON
PAID: £71,250
VALUED: £200,000
PROFIT: £128,750

To use just two of the examples. So who got/gets the profit if it isnt them? You, Me

The fairest way to house MPs would be to have holyrood purchase the flats and let the MSPs stay in them rent free until they retire or are booted out of government and if eventually the house is to be sold the money can then go back where it belongs, into the public coffers rather than some fuker who pockets the profit from the sale and goes on his/her merry way.

Just to rub salt into the wounds they also leave with a pension whihch will no doubt be index linked so the ****s can cream more money out of us.

Makes me fukkin sick this.

Re: For anyone struggling to get on the housing ladder

The fairest thing would have been for Edinburgh Council to have allocated them a council flat each in Wester Hailes or Niddrie. The cost to the tax payer would have been practically zilch.

Yeah I know the objections to this. The MSPs would bring down the tone of the neighbourhood, and their criminal activities would attract dodgy people to these fine housing areas. Which is fair enough. I wouldn't want any of them living near me either.

But lining their pockets with juicy property deals is bang out of order when more honest folk struggle to find a home.

Re: For anyone struggling to get on the housing ladder

Why don't they just add the houses into the council housing stock with a payment to the MSPs of what they paid on the mortgage themselves. If they don't wish to do that, then they can pay back what they got in their housing subsidy since they are in it for the profit motive.

I remember many years back Glasgow Council recruited a new director of architecture from down south, rather than get a west end apartment he took a place in easterhouse so he could live with and understand the problems of these estates. he later was responsible for much of the change in Castlemilk which helped win Glasgow the City of Architecture and Design 1999.

Some politicians should maybe try that.

I think they should be credited for raising money for the exchequer by paying 40% tax..

Probably all the feckers ever contributed in their time as a MSP..

Euan Robson was my MSP until a fortnight ago, when he rightly lost to the Tories in Roxburgh & Berwickshire (due to him being arrogant and not campaigning, and a brilliant and committed campaign fought by John Lamont and his team). It might interest you to know that Robson, at the start of the Parliament, lived in Dunbar or Haddington - and later, when he moved to Kelso, he already had a house in Edinburgh, which he then sold - allowing him to get a 'new' house under the MSP scheme and make a bomb from it.

Would it not be capital gains tax which is lower. Also, if you live in the house for 6 months prior to sale you don't have to pay.
