Big teles - films which deserve a second watch

The first time I saw the Scorcese movie Casino (on a wee tele) I was pretty impressed - but last night I watched it on a 42" screen with the surround sound turned well up.

What a difference! I had a lump in my throat during the titles (Matthew's Passion by Bach I think) and was amazed by the photography throughout.

Anyone else been bowled over by movie after re-watching it on one of these big electric television sets and surround sound efforts people have these days?

Last of the Mohicans is brilliant on a 42 incher - the panoramic views are superb. I quite liked the storyline as well which helps.

Re: Big teles - films which deserve a second watch

For the surround system alone, it's got to be the new King Kong movie.

I watched that bomber and thought it was pretty naff tbh. Mind you I only had my front speakers on so I might have missed the full impact of the sound.

Re: Big teles - films which deserve a second watch

The best clip from a film i've ever watched in a film which utilizes surround sound to its fullest is in Forrest Gump.... its the bit where he's sitting chatting to the old wifey and a bus zooms past him giving you a whooping "Doppler" effect. Superb film aswell!!

Miller's Crossing is fantastic on a large screen. The bit where Albert Finney gets 'artistic' with the Thomson is superb!

The Speeder Bike chase in Return of the Jedi and the Ride of the Valkyries (Helicopters) in Apocolypse now are both good on these systems, a lot of people found a new love of 'Top Gun' but I still hated it!
