Smurf, completely agree with what your saying. these 'we're ruled by an imperial power' people should spend a week in Palestine or Sudan to see what oppression really is about

So imperial rule can only take one form, and thats ethnic genicide?

After we win our independence the best part is still to come... the development, passing and enabling of a Scottish Constitution and/or possibly even a Scottish Bill of Rights, which enshrine and help safeguard our freedoms and rights in a legal framework.

A democractic independent Scotland may eventually turn out to be very different creature from sad tired old Blighty with its medieval farce of a state, with heriditary head of state, and run by clowns in wigs supervisd by the house of old duffers.

The British Constitution - a right slapdash jumble of antiquated mumbojumbo - isnt worth the paper it's not written on, as the old saying goes.

And as for Britain's human rights record ... what a joke. Britian's imperial wars over the last half a century - in Ireland and abroad - have been used to justify an all-out assault on everyone's civil liberties and create the most instrusive surveillance society anywhere in Europe.

Hopefully May 3rd will be the first in a series of bold confident steps in saying goodbye to medieval warmongering Britain and hello to a democratic peace-loving republic of equals.

Opinion polls do currently show the SNP to be heading for the most seats this thursday but they also show the OVERWHELMING majority are for keeping the Union and don't want independence.

It's a protest vote.

However, as we get further into this week a good few are going to understand that 4 years of Alex and Nicola and all the constitutional madness it would bring is actually a silly way to protest about a PM who has all but left the building.

Therefore IMO it's going to be close particularly as tactical 'Stop The Nats' thinking kicks in.

As you pointed out previously, people shouldn't read too much into polls as they can be used in many ways and by many people for many reasons.

It may well be a protest vote but it'll stand for at least 4 years!

Obviously in the next term while the Nationalists rock the boat in as many ways as they possibly can to encourage our Nation that Independance is the right option, you'll be praying that the Westminster parliament starts to make some decisons that'll make a majority of Scots come back 'on side'. With Gordon Brown at first then maybe even David Cameron taking over

That's exactly what Jock McConnel/Jack MacDonald has been trying to say for weeks..

Huge instability is not good for an economy that is currently doing very well. Maybe us Scots take a steady growing economy as a given..

In London and Frankfurt, the financial companies will be looking forward to the 4 years + of instability to hoover up some of Edinburgh's business.

"Doing very well" ? Growth that's consistently below the UK average and about a third of independent Ireland's ? Fan-feckin-tastic

The GDP/head of Glasgow and Edinburgh is way above any other city in the UK except London (for obvious reasons). It is also well above many other European cities.

Well as us Scots want huge public service spending, that requires higher taxes, would we not have to cut back on public service spending, in order to reduce taxes and stimulate higher growth?

Great, that's about 20% of the population sorted (well actually probably a lot less than that). What about the rest ?

I think we all know the election is on Thursday!

Obviously Jock MacDonald is worried about the threat to the Economy, that explained the master stroke of unveiling some Scottish football legends/has beens to counter the SNP's array of succesful Scottish Business People!

By all accounts, we have a massively overinflated public sector. Maybe we need to take some tough decisions that Labour isn't prepared to ?

Jeez, what a load of bull. There is no evidence of "overwhelming " support for the union anywhere. Yesterdays poll for instance stated 32% independence and 45% for more powers. I suppose you have commandeered the more powers group as Unionists eh ? I suspect many want independence but are happy with the gradualist approach.

As for protest vote it looks like the anti SNP pro union protest votes may go to Labour. I mean no one is actually enthusiastic about voting Labour are they ?

The vast majority of Labours list were Tories. They couldn't find enough backers of their own.
