Going to Ireland
I want to go to Ireland later in the summer. Wheres the best place to go?
I was thinking of flying to Dublin but is the airport close to the town centre? Are the place to stay cheap or not? (any recommendations) Is there lots of things to do as well as boozing? Thanks for the help.

Re: Going to Ireland
You can get a direct bus from dublin airport to the city. Journey times approx 30 mins. Costs 6 euro and the ticket gives you unlimited travel all day. The taxi takes about 20 mins or so and will set you back about 40.00 or 50.00 euro.
There's plenty of Republic of Ireland Hibs SC here in dublin so give us a shout when you're over and we can organise a booze up To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. Re: Going to Ireland
The local Bus from the airport to the town centre takes 15 minutes longer but is only €1.80. Cheap digs are not so easy to find, nor is a cheap pint!

Re: Going to Ireland
Aye plenty fun to be had in Dublin, bevvying being the primary activity. Give one of us a shout when yer over so we can tell ye the best spots to visit (and avoid). Dublin is a particularly great city in the summer, the whole atmosphere of the place is crackin.
Other than that if you have time Galway is well worth a visit.

Re: Going to Ireland
Galway is bouncing
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. in the Summer. Lots of great pubs. If you were to come when the Glaway Races are on (30th July - 5th August) you'd think it was New Year's Eve! The city is rammed to capacity. The downside is that you'd probably find it difficult to find accommodation and if you did, it'd probably be very expensive. Galway City is good for a day or two before touring elsewhere. Public transport in Ireland isn't great outside the main cities, so if you can hire a car or get yourself on one of the many tours, (I've seen a bus for Paddy Wagon Tours around these parts) you'd get to see a lot more of the place...Connemara, Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry etc. You can fly from Edinburgh direct to Galway with Aer Arann or with Ryanair into Shannon (much cheaper but is over an hour's drive/bus). Alternatively you can get a train from Heuston Station, Dublin straight to Galway. Let me know if you need any advice/help. |

Head to Oriel Park in Dundalk for some summer footie and enjoy the best pint anywhere in the Lilywhite Lounge.

Re: Going to Ireland
County Cork is fantastic. It'son my top ten list of European places to visit. Food, drink, scenery, people are truly wonderful. Don't miss the chance to spend a day or three in Dublin though.

Re: Going to Ireland
Galway City is jumping.
Wicklow County is beautiful Wicklow Town is charming County Down and around about the Mournes is the DOGS....Dufferin Arms in Killyleagh and Denvirs in Downpatrick are both top places. The Cuan in Strangford is a must for us every festive season and the Cable Bar in Ballyhornan is....well....an Irish bar in rural, coastal Northern Ireland and I love it. Oh and Dublin is worth a visit too!

The view outside of Finn's in Warrenpoint is breathtaking. You've the Mourne on the left and the Cooley on the right as you look out into Carlingford Lough.

Re: Going to Ireland
GEt to Dingle in County Kerry and swim with Fungi the Dolphin. You'll find it hard to go wrong. I've had a great time in Cork, Nenagh, Galway & Dublin.
Watch out for Dublin hotels, there's some hovels around, see my entry on Trip Advisor for the Adelphi for an example. Cheers Simon
