Re: who are you voting for? (anon poll)

Will more than likely spoil my paper for the first vote in the SP. Only candidates are from Labour, Lib Dems, Tories, and the SNP and I think they are all wanks. If I don't spoil my paper, then I would probably feel obliged to vote Labour since that would be a vote for Malcolm Chisholm who has regularly fell out with the Labour Party over some issues and is by all accounts is a good constituency MP. Out of the entire Labour Party in the SP he's one of a tiny handful who I would wish to see not losing his job. I'm not voting for the tories. I'm not voting for the Lib Dems due to their continual abdication of responsibility in the SP coalition and trying to look good with no great reason to be so. I'm not voting for something which says on my ballot paper "Alex Salmond for first minister" as even with a postal vote I can still cringe, and I think Salmond is a cock anyway so if they make that their primary issue they can get fecked.

Second additional member vote, more than likely the SSP. Closest to me politically. They've virtually no chance of winning a seat this time round due to Sheridan splitting the left wing vote as a wee ego trip for himself.

Local election, a mix of Reds and Greens in whatever order looks best with what they say on the campaign trail.

Re: who are you voting for? (anon poll)

While I wouldn't vote for them, I think its really disappointing that the fringe parties (Greens, SSP, Solidarity, SSCUP etc) are standing in hardly any constituencies. It restricts the choice of people who don't like the current Lib-Lab coalition, but don't want to give their vote to the Independence or Unionist cause either. In my constituency the only other choice bar the big 4 is a maverick painter who goes about dressed as a Highlander waving a claymore. Then again, has some attractions...

Re: who are you voting for? (anon poll)

For the SP vote I'm going for SNP, more or less because I think the Scottish Parliament is a bit pointless when the same party is in power there and in Westminster. The SNP gaining power would make things a bit more interesting. Salmond is a good debater and again, simply more interesting than Jack McConnell. I think the SNP are making a mistake with their vote Alex campaign though as he's probably a bit too abrasive for most voters.

I suspect that the SNP will lose their lead on polling day and as usual, unimaginative Scottish voters will stick with the status quo.

You'll need to vote for 'The Grey Panthers' if possible due to Mulvey being involved in the campaign otherwise he wont speak to you ever again. George drinks down in the Iona with you as well does he not.

Is 'interesting' a polite euphemism for 'complete and utter cock, with a smug jambo face I'd never tire of slapping'? If so I agree.

I'm out the country that week and don't think I'll even bother with a postal vote. The four main parties are beige, opportunist, and almost identical - no ta. Either the SSP or Solidarity are full of absolute liars who are prepared to lie in a court of law, nevermind a parliament, so I'm not taking a chance on either. Greens have done almost zilch since the birth of the SP so I'll pass on them too. I know people died for my right to vote etc etc but they also died for my right not to vote so don't think I'll bother.

I pretty much agree with that except that the only ones who have proven themselves to be useless as the main party in the SP are Labour. I'm for giving someone else a chance which is why I'm going to make an effort to vote this time round.

I'd be struggling to pick out of that lot. I suppose I may have sat on the fence and voted libdem now that they are not going to back an independence vote.

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. Readers should either ignore, treat with contempt, or simply accept the spirit it is written in, without recourse to huffy replies, legal action or threats of violence.
That includes YOU.

They are on the same ballot sheet. Spoil one column (constituency) would invalidate the other (regional list). Arguably we should have the option to vote 'none of these'!!

Interestingly, the City of Edinburgh Council have moved their count to Ingliston - I guess since it would be hypocritical to have it at Meadowbank which they want to close!! Votes are being counted electronically this year (but interestingly CoEC have a flap on as machines can only count 20-22 options and some council seats have 24 candidates!!).

It was moved because more space could not be found at Meadowbank if there had to be a manual count. The manual count would have taken place if there was 24 candidates on the list part of the ballot as it had not been tested up that far. There are 22 parties and independents standing in Edinburgh for the list seats.

Nope. The electronic counting system to be used and which I have seen demonstrated looks pretty good. All stages of the process seem designed to ensure that as many votes as possible are interpreted as valid votes. You can mess up either side of the SP vote without affecting the other side. It is marginally easier to mess up the Council paper but only if counting from 1 to 10 without omissions is a skill which eludes one. Some voters will undoubtedly fall into that category, but that could be viewed as a natural (de)selection process, I suppose.

We'll see whether Edinburgh's ERO can once again create chaos from a task which is not really rocket science whether done electronically or manually, but the new system does look an improvement.
