Ewan Murray in the Guardian today...

For full, industrial-strength biased yammery, it is worth reading Ewan Murray's match report in the Graun sports section today. He makes barely a mention of the game itself, but includes plenty of guff about how Hibs have taken over from the Yams as the Edinburgh club in crisis. I am no happier than any other Hibbie about the current dressing room shenanigans, but a bit of dressing room unrest does not really compare with Riccarton-style revolts, a succession of managers with a shorter life span than a sucked Fruit Gum, a £28.4m debt and rising, a trophy-free season of thuggish hoofball, a third successive SFA fine for dirty play and an owner who is madder than the maddest man in the whole of Madville, Madison County.

Ewan Murray is the same Yam-supporting twat who headlined Hibs' fine CIS win over the Yams as "Hibs lay to rest Hearts' league cup hoodoo" or some such crap, going on to mention in the text that it was Hibs' first win ever over the Yams in the CIS. What he neglected to mention in his match report however (apart from Hibs' complete 81% domination of the game, that is - somehow that escaped his notice too) is that the two clubs had only met precisely twice before in the 51 year history of the competition, the most recent occasion being back in the 50s. His Scottish Football reports generally are an embarrassment and he usually manages to work a pro-Yam or anti-Hibs reference into them somewhere.

Typical of the Lentilista sandal-wearing Pinko tree huggers at the Graun that they manage to find the only Yam in Scotland who can do joined up writing and then give the twat a job on the sports desk.

You have a real love-hate relationship with The Grauniad, don't you 0762? At least they mentionied it for once. Their Scottish football coverage is pitiful considering they must have a decent readership here. I emailed them to this effect a couple of years ago when they conspicuously failed to preview the Hibs-Dnipro UEFA Cup tie despite giving a round up of all the other UEFA ties. Especially galling as it was the 50th Anniversary of a British team playing in Europe i.e. Hibs. I expected better from a paper with Kevin 'Celtic View' McCarra as one of their senior football correspondents. Actually, I didn't.

Aye, I suppose I do, Mr Panza. I have been a faithful reader for years, I know that the writing is of a consistently high standard, I wouldn't buy any other paper, but some of the attitudes on display and the fantasy politics of some of their regulars drive me crazy.

Oh, these days they generally manage to cover any Hibs game where Hibs fail to do well, and somehow the aforementioned Mr Murray is usually the author of the report. I suppose even vermin like journalists are entitled to be football fans as well, but Murray is Yammish and anti-Hibs in that peculiarly pedantic, humourless fashion which so many Yams seem to affect. And just like so many Yams, he revels in dubious statistics as if figures can disprove the notion that the Yams are perennial under-achievers and actually no' very good.

He should be writing for a Fanzine rather than a national newspaper. At least that way he would not have to pretend an impartiality to which he cannot even vaguely aspire. Along, incidentally, with Nicky Campbell, who was for a while writing a Graun column notable mainly for its conspicuously Vlad-free content - despite this being at the height of Mad King Bambo's excesses and despite Campbell being another arch-Yam never slow to have a poke at the Flair Team.

Re: Ewan Murray in the Guardian today...

the guardian has become a comic.

i'd also recommend checking out some of the competition if you believe the guardian to rate particularly highly in even the quality of writing stakes.

i hate to say it, but if you can get past the asinine student newspaper front pages and occasional robert fisk epistle, the independent is less crackers than the graun these days.

I don't buy it but if there's fantasy politics in there, I might.

Ah, Comrade O'Driscoll. We haven't crossed paths for a while, but if I recall correctly, fantasy politics was something of a specialism for you. It is nice to hear from you again.

I hear what you are saying about the Indy, EGB. I think we have had this conversation before. I have tried to like and admire it - honest, I really have. I have even tried to read it. But I am afraid that I still find it deadly dull, and for me it will always be just the Beige Opportunists' house journal. And you know just how much regard I have for those carpetbagging charlatans.
