Movie recommendation - Days of Glory.(Indigènes)

Went to see this lastnight, fantastic film.


The tale of a group of African soldiers who join the French in their fight against the Nazis. Although they passionately battle to defend the motherland, a place they’ve never been, they face inequality and daily humiliation within the French army. These heroes that history forgot won battles throughout Europe before finding themselves alone to defend a small village against a German battalion.

For what it's worth. I highly recommend this film, I was totally in grossed in this for which seemed a very short 2 hours.

The acting is superb throughout as are the battle scenes, look out for Bernard Blancon who plays sgt Martinez, ie,the scene with the tomatoes is very strong and powerfull. (tomatoes you may add) as are many other demeaning scenes towards the mainly Algerian soldiers,

BTW, it was only a few months ago that the French goverment decided that the North African soldiers - who many sacrificed their lives for the "motherland" were awarded the full pension.

Would like to see this, I like Jamel Debbouze seems to have been in a few good French movies.

You will enjoy it mate.


You will indeed be impressed with Jamel Debbouze in this film. There is a touching moment with him and his Sgt near the end.

He's great in Amélie. Another guy who pulls off acting retarded (can I say that?) is Toby Kebbell in Dead Man's Shoes not French but a great film.

great film as well as a good insight to how the french treated there colonial soldiers. well worth a watch for those who like a good war film.
