Should We Bid For The Club World Cup?
Just been thinking about the fact that we can't seem to get organised for a solo European Championship bid. (And that we're stuffed if it goes up to 24 teams for Euro 2012 onwards anyway). So I'm thinking why not bid to host the FIFA Club World Cup? Japan held the 2005-2006 licence, and has renewed for 2007-2008, but why doesn't Scotland think about bidding for the 2009-2010 competitions? It would be a great spectacle to hold
For those who don't know, this is the tournament which brings together the club champions of the 6 confederations - Europe, North/Central America + Caribbean, Asia, Africa, South America, Oceania - every year to decide the World Club champion. The 4 smaller confederations play in Round 1, with the winners meeting the European and South American champions in the Semi-Finals. I'd comprise the bid as follows: 2009 CWC Round 1 M1 - Easter Road Stadium, (expanded to around 27,000) M2 - Tynecastle Stadium, 26,000 Semi-Finals M1 - Ibrox Stadium, 58,000 M2 - Celtic Park, 60,000 5th/6th Place Play-off Rugby Park, (expanded to around 22,000) 3rd/4th Place Play-off New Pittodrie (new stadium of around 32,000) FINAL Murrayfield, 67,000 2010 CWC Round 1 M1 - Celtic Park M2 - Ibrox Stadium Semi-Finals M1 - Pittodrie Stadium M2 - Community Stadium, Dundee (new stadium of around 20,000 - 24,000) 5th/6th Place Play-off Tynecastle Stadium 3rd/4th Place Play-off Easter Road Stadium FINAL Hampden Park (expanded to around 70,000) Having proved ourselves capable of hosting an event such as this, together with the Commonwealth Games (hopefully) in 2014, we could then go on to bid for the European Championships in 2016 or 2020 with a very good chance of succeeding. |

Re: Should We Bid For The Club World Cup?
i can't see it working to be honest. the stadiums are too small, as are the towns. could you imagine 30,000 people (plus the ticketless fans) going to say kilmarnock? It would be chaos, scotland's too small for such a competition sadly.
