Re: Flag Debate

On the subject (seeing as it was started) Why is the blue in the Saltire a different shade from that in the Union flag? As the Blue in the Union flag is from the Saltire shouldn't they be the same?

Good question i have often pondered this.
Sadly i dont know the answer.Go to a Scotland game and you will see about 5 different shades of blue on the Saltires.
Which one is right??

no online source Col but I distinctly remember seeing and reading that the blue was made darker becuase it had a tendency to fade rather easilly thus darkening kept it 'blue-er' for longer.
Improvements in dye over the years would have kept it darker. Red dye was always stronger and cheap since the days of cromwell.

Canny mind if it was the navy or the army who first had probs with this but it was before the St Patrick's cross was added.

Re: Flag Debate

The Scotland football strip is darker still but I recall reafing that these were Queen's Parks colours at the time of the first internation (v England) and all the players were from Queens so they used their own strips.

Re: Flag Debate

Union Flag is a deep "navy" blue (Pantone 280).

I kind of prefer the darker blue saltires.

Re: Flag Debate

On a tangent I know but this is something ive been wondering about for ages. Does anyone think that our away kit should be saltire blue? My logic behind this is our home kit is green representing the Irish side of Hibernian so should the away kit be blue to represent the Scottish side?

Just asking, ive bounced this of a few Hibees and they thought it wasnt a bad idea, just want to know what you guys think.

I like the ribena - the bottle green is OK as well - and the all white (edinburgh's colours)

No dont want to ever see Hibs run out in blue it would break my heart, would prefer to see them run out in pink (oops I have already).

Would prefer a fetching tartan number for the away kit

Re: Flag Debate

Hibs have worn blue shorts in the past - in the 19th Century when were the first Edinburgh CLub to win the Scottish Cup and against Bristol CIty in the Anglo Scottish Cup.

Not a great idea for a blue strip though, too many connotations Joe, ya wind-up loony ye.

Re: Flag Debate

Ok. Just a though. Just to clarify, I mean blue as in the same shade as the saltire, not royal blue like Rangers. But it was just a though.

Im not toaly shure about this but didnt we have a green and white away strip not too long ago? It was something like white shirt with green shorts and socks. I think it was in the Scottish cup a few years ago. I quite liked that kit. Im not mad keen on this years kit.

I think the last home shirt those orange b#####ds had that was anything like a light blue was the first NTL one round about 1999. even that wasn't very light.

wouldn't fit their 'hullo hullo how do you do' pishy song anyway
