Greatest Footballer the world has ever seen.

83 goals in 84 games for Hungary
357 goals in 354 games for Kispest Honved
512 goals in 528 games for Real Madrid.

Can't argue with that!

RIP

Re: Ferenc Puksas Dead

After leading Hungary to the 1952 Olympic Gold medal, he was part of the Mighty Magyars who became the first overseas team to beat England on home soil in 1953, scoring twice in the 6-3 win at Wembley.

Hungary then rolled England over 7-1 in Budapest and were consequently installed as favourites for the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland.

That's a surprising stat?

Yup, thats how good the team were aswell. They should have won the 54' world cup, flair was outdone by the cheating german machine!

http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/...n/puskas.html# - info and video clips

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoBvh4ENmic - video aswell, watch out for one of his goals against engerland, pulls it back leaving the defender on his erse to smash it in!

A truly great player by all accounts. Did he play in the Real Madrid team that Hibs beat at Easter Road in a friendly?

Re: Ferenc Puksas Dead

Had the pleasure of seeing him thrice. First time was at Greyskull, my auld man was admirer of the great Hungarian team of the 50s. So we went to see him play for Real Madrid v huns. It was virtually all huns in that game, and Puskas was hardly involved, but still it was goalless despite all the hun pressure, then with a couple of minutes to go, the ball reached that magic left foot - goal for Real.

The 2nd time was the famous game v Real at ER, God how we hankered afyter tickets for that game.

3rd time was ar Wembley 71. Scotland had been humped by the Saxons 3-1. and we made our way mournfully doon Olympic way. A bus made it's way slowly past us. It was the Panathiniakos team bus, they were due to play Ajax in the European Cup final at Wembley that week. Their manager stood up to look out, "Puskas, Puskas" chanted both sets of supporters. we recognised a genius when we saw one. The great man smiled and waved to us, best memory of that weekend.

Re: Ferenc Puksas Dead

Hibs played the world famous Real Madrid in a friendly game in October 1964 at Easter Road. The Scottish side ran out two nil winners. Real Madrid at that time had won the European Cup five times, including a memorable victory in 1960 at Hampden Park over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Spanish team included world famous players such as Puskas, Gento and Santamaria. Hibs were managed by Jock Stein,

Re: Ferenc Puksas Dead

Another thing, we didnae qualify for Europe for that season (64-65) so the game was a friendly, but herz did play in the Fairs Cup that season ,but nobody remembers how they got on. The Hibs - Real game put them in the shadow.
