I don't know much about the history of Third Lanark, but found this league table of the Scottish first division season 60-61, 100 goals for, and 80 against. They must have been an entertaining lot to watch. Why did they fold, was there Lthuanian influence, did they believe.

Are Third Lanark not now an amateur ladies team - just like Hearts?

They never did redevelop the ground!!!

No to put too fine a point upon it the chairman Hiddleston was a crook. The polis were investigating him when he snuffed it. By then Thirds were extinct.

An anorak writes, their last ground was in fact the 2nd of two Cathkin Parks. It was previously the 2nd of the three Hampden Parks....

and we won it at Celtic Park in 1902/3 - the game was to have been played at Ibrox but this was changed due to the recent Ibrox disaster so the SFA decided that the final against Celtic be played at the neutral venue of Celtic Park

so until this year we have never won the SC at Hampden

Hiddleston deliberately ran the club down. He paid players late, sold good players for peanuts, no water for showers, unreliable transport to away games.

A Board of Trade inquiry came to the conclusion that Hiddleston had effectively run the club into the ground, making it totally unattractive. He undoubtedly had plans to sell Cathkin for houses. As Pilrig says, the bastard avoided justice by dying.

If you're ever in the Hampden area, it is well worth a visit to stand on the old terracing. If you close your eyes, raise your head and listen very carefully you may faintly hear a wee ned asking his 'bawbag' pal for a light.
