UK Taxi Fare Table (FAO Hibadelic)

Edinburgh taxi and private hire taxi fares are currently 180 most expensive in the U.K from 377 licensing authorities.

Edinburgh Tariff 1 Flag £1.50, 1 mile £3.00 , 2 mile £4.50
Tariff 2 flag £ 2.50, 1 mile £4.00 , 2 mile £5.50

Glasgow Tariff 1 flag £2.00, 1 mile £2.60, 2 mile £4.00
Tariff 2 Flag £2.80, 1 mile £3.40 2 mile £4.80

Nat Average Tar 1 Flag £2.24, 1 mile £2.99, 2 mile £4.49
Tar 2 Flag £3.01, 1 mile £4.01, 2 mile £5.99

Interesting that Glasgow are actually more expensive at the drop of the flag although Edinburgh then make up the difference over the first mile and run 10p dearer per mile thereafter. Both cities coming out as reasonably priced though.

Longer journies in Glasgow though, which'll bump the fare up

It's 4.9 miles from my mums house to mine. The cheapest it has been in the last 6 years in a taxi is £13. The distance to my dads is 3.4 miles and it has not been under a tenner for any journey since he moved house three years ago.

Feckin hell! I'm about £7 for the 3.5 miles from the town to my house.

Re: UK Taxi Fare Table (FAO Hibadelic)

I find this incredible as I can't seem to go anywhere in Edinburgh in a taxi for under a tenner...

yet I can't remember ever spending as much as that in Glasgow ....

Do you know where there you can get hold of copies of the actual tariffs for each place online rather than the figures there. Edinburgh's fares change at 2250 meters but don't go down by much (25p per 260 meters instead of per 225 m), could it be that in most places they go down by a lot more after a certain distance? 2 miles seems a pretty short distance to have as the maximum comparable and anecdotal evidence seems to suggest there is more of a difference when comparing journeys of over 2 miles.

I found Edinburgh's but can't get Glasgow's. http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/internet...fares_2006.pdf

Al - according to my calculations you should be paying about £7.60 (plus 25p for every 45 seconds standing still after 90 seconds) to go to your mum's.

It cost me £22 in a Livi taxi from Edinburgh east end to Livi on Sat night. It would have been a small mortgage if I had hailed an Edinburgh Black cab. My mate paid £13 to Drylaw ina black cab the same night.

And it isn't. So I'm either getting taken the wrong route (don't think so, Corstorphine to Leith is basically straight along St Johns Rd, Haymarket, Princes Street or Queen Street, then Leith Walk and Multimap reckons this is quickest as well), I'm remarkably consistent in getting stuck at lights (not to the best of my memory), or that those figures are not right.

Had a good look for Glasgow's when we were comparing last week, could not find it anywhere online.

Re: UK Taxi Fare Table (FAO Hibadelic)

Give that I stay in Slateford and with those tariff rates, I should be able to get to Edinburgh airport for a lot less than the £15 it regularly costs me then?

Edinburgh has the most expensive taxis of any city i've ever been in I would say.

Slateford to Airport aprox 6.5 - 7.5 miles? (11 - 12km)
11 Km trip with no waiting time comes out at £12. If you pre book the taxi to come to your door another 60p booking fee will apply. Under normal traffic conditions and the odd set of lights you would be not far of the £15 mark although I'd be questioning things if it was much more, unless traffic conditions were exceptionaly bad.

Wee 162 I used to drive Corstorphine to Leith everyday of the week and this would be the last route i would take. It may well be shorter in terms of millage but you can guarentee that your going to get stuck in traffic somewhere along the route.
After trying a few different way's I found going over Corstorphine Hill, Along Queensferry Road to The Quality Street junction, here i would see how the traffice flows,if it's busy turn of towards D'mains then down to Ferry Road if not carry on straight down again to Ferry Road. Been a bit of a pisser a few times if there's an accident or breakdown but 9-10 this is by and far the best way to go.

Stop moaning we are 3rd!!! The prices are so high you end up incurring the soiling charge when you find out how much your been charged.

(I notice "soiling" is permitted in Sevenoaks).

It's about 6.2 miles from my house. Most of the journeys are very early morning, so traffic is light but not once has it been under £15. Compared to even cities like New York and Hong Kong I think the prices are very steep. Maybe it just feels more expensive!

Re: UK Taxi Fare Table (FAO Hibadelic)

Am regularly in London and I don't really notice a difference in prices there and in Edinburgh....

Used to be it was more expensive, but now it seems London is maybe marginally more but then the traffic is usually worse ... (believe it or not...)

whatever positive effect the congestion charge initially had seems to be wearing off to me, but that's probably for another thread...

So how come it costs £30.00 from the centre of Edinburgh to Bonnyrigg?

Last time I was near there (2 weeks ago). Travel Inn Morrison St to Kings Acre golf was £25 inc out of town surcharge and over 15 mins waiting time outside hotel. This was on a Saturday morning so tariff 2 applied.
