Anyone read the book/see the film Slaughterhouse 5?

Where the protagonist kept jumping around in time without any control? Kurt Vonnegut Jnr was the author, a great read and a very underrated movie. Now what could have put me in mind of that?

Hope our techies can fix it cos it is doing my head in. What surprises me is how important to me it seems to be that I understand the sequence of posting... is it my training or do others feel like this?

Re: Anyone read the book/see the film Slaughterhouse 5?

FWIW the book is in my all time top 10. Humour , vision, tragedy and compassion as well as being a great read. One of the few books where the preface adds immeasurably to the book itself.

As for the film - less sure. I think it's pretty much unfilmable, but it was a brave stab none the less. And Valerie Perrine is never less than unsettling.

Re: Anyone read the book/see the film Slaughterhouse 5?

KVJ is a great writer Colr, recommend all his stuff. It is science fiction, mainly, though some of his stuff is more mundane (literally) eg Deadeye Dick.

Slaughterhouse 5 is about a guy called Billy Pilgrim who is a survivor of the bombing of Dresden in WW2 (as a POW) and who time-jumps randomly back and forth through his life. Difficult to describe the book, but Archie has a decent go above.

And is partly based on KV jr's own experience as a PoW in Dresden. If you are at all put off by a Sci Fi tag, don't be - it's the very antithesis of shoot em up sci fi.

I loved the book, but you were in danger of winning that argument so I changed my verdict accordingly.
