Wonder how that would go down in Tiger Bay or the Falls

Joking aside, it is a good thing to see although TBH it's probably on of the safest places to have a "mixed" community as far as I remember Enniskillen is a decent place that was dragged into The Troubles rather than being the focal point. On paper it may be something that will get the rest of the country thinking they could live like that as well.

It'll also give the Housing Executive a chance to iron out any problems and see what issues come up in what is (like you say) a pretty progressive town.

Once that's done, I'd like to see them finding ways to expand this type of housing across NI.

Excellent news

When I very briefly lived in God's wee patch of sunshine this always struck me as the weirdest thing. My workplace was mixed (I was seconded to my company's Belfast office for a few months) and pretty much everyone got on, but at the end of he day half of my colleagues would head one way and half would head the other.

I've got a moderately taig-sounding surname but was put up by the company in a flat in East Belfast: I was advised to say my second name was something more "Scottish sounding" if I went for a pint locally.

It's a very familiar situation, I've had to have a change of name in the past myself but the number of places left where this is necessary is reducing all the time. Personally, I've had nights out in pubs in both extremes and don't find it to be much of an issue any more: although the out-and-out paramilitary-controlled places are always going to be risky no matter who you are.

New private housing developments in NI tend to be more mixed than cooncil ones, but in any case hopefully the Housing Executive will make it a priority to make sure they don't build any more sectarian ghettos. It wasn't their fault in the past, but there's no excuse now.

Re: FAO Northern Ireland watchers

Following on from my first post.

Thanks to NI's politicians, we take one step forward then take two steps back.

Our public representatives over here really are fcuking pond-life.

To be fair my "local" was a UDA-run shebeen in the estate across the road... I preferred to go slightly further afield

Zippo lighter... check.
One large can of aqua-net extreme hold hairspray... check.

I almost want to say it's typical DUP grandstanding, but if the situation were reveresed SF would be pulling the same shite.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the people drink their kool-aid and follow them to their own Jonestown in the jungle.
