Edinburgh City FC

I noticed on wikipedia that they play at Meadowbank these days. A few local Hibees used to go along to the Meadowbank games as well and regarded them as a second team. Does anyone go to watch City?

Guy I used to work with who used to be a Meadowbank fan and was disgusted with the move to Livi, was heavily involved in the club and subsequently my sisters (now ex) husband became the secretary of the club... have been to see them a few times but their crowds are rather tiny ... they do tend to get a few in the qualifying cup games though as this is what these teams live for - the chance to get into the cup proper (as Spartans did last year) and possibly play a big or biggish club and make some (for them) serious money that keeps them going a good while.

Re: Edinburgh City FC

There's a building on the Walk just up from where the Bronx used to be - an old Georgian house - which has Edinburgh City in wrought ironwork over the gate. Was that their original base?

That's their club building ... they use it in a similar way to Junior clubs - with a couple of bars etc - trying to generate revenue to support the club.

Sadly, a lot of the members of the club are now old folk who like their saturday nights up there and it has hindered them using it to its full potential - especially given it's prime location.

Not sure what they've managed to do with it, but know they were trying to look at ways of increasing revenue from it to support the club.

Great venue for a club

That club next to the old Salon for many years was just a social club. I think for many years City never ran a club, and in the mid 50s formed a short lived team called Edinburgh United who had a ground at Stenhouse.
