Independence 1st March
Hopefully most will awready know aboot this!!
Theres a march in Edunburgh this coming saturday which has been organised by independence first! The main idea behind it is to show the support for independence that is out there and show westminster that we're to be taken seriously. Independence 1st are a non-political group who want to unite all the pro-independence organisations/parties under the one banner and win a referendum on independence! www.independence1st.com The march kicks off at 1.30pm fro East Market St. and finishes up outside holyrood. There will be musical entertainment and a few speeches from certain political parties etc.. A big turnout for this is a MUST!!!!! So if you're a nationalist, a patriot or just a proud Scot then get down there and show your support! Hope to see a lot of fellow hibees there! Alba Gu Brath

Re: Independence 1st March
I don't see why this is getting slagged off - Simon if you're a patriot and proud Scot then you will know at least a wee bit about your country - enough to know that it is not better off in the union!! And saying that it is is plain and simple stupidness!

Re: Independence 1st March
I will be on the march on Saturday.
I can't say I am happy Tommy Sheridan is speaking - he's a liar and a sleazebag as far as I'm concerned - but that is not a good reason for not going. Scotland, despite being the most oil rich nation in Western Europe is also one of it's poorest. The idea that the Union is doing anything for us is laughable when you compare us to the other small Nation states of Europe such as Denmark, the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, and Norway. All of these Countires, according to the United Nations, have higher life expectancies and lower rates of infant mortality. All have better living standards. All have their own states to better their living standards with. Spot the connection? Are we Scots struggling because because we are naturally inferior? Or because decsions are made in Westminster only to favour our cousins in the South? Surely the person calling themselves a Scottish patriot (which for some bizarre and false reason many Unionists do) would not agree with the former. So surely they must agree with the latter? I have nothing against the English themselves. But I do have a lot against the insanely undemocratic British state. Take the nuclear issue for example. All of the UK's nuclear weapons are based in Scotland. The Scottish people oppose them by a majority but they are still in our Country. Or immigration. Even the Scottish Parliament, with its' incompetent Labour administration, voted that dawn raids should not continue and that children should not be detained in Dungavel detension centre. This had the overwhelming support of the Scottish public. But in a one day whistle stop tour Tony McNulty gave a very firm no. We may have a Parliament but we are still very much dicated too by Westminster. It is impossible to argue that the Union is democratic. It has never been democratically endorsed. The Scottish Parliament that signed it was elected by a handful of people whilst after its signing Scotland was engulfed by riots opposion it in Dumfires, Glasgow, and of course Edinburgh. And there has never been a referendum since. The closed thing we have had to a vote on it was an attempt by the Scottish MPs in Westminister to repeal the act four years after it was signed which was voted down by rest of the Brit MPs. All that this demonstration will ask is that there be a referendum on independence. If the Unionists are so confident that the benefits of the British state are clear to everyone then surely they should support this, in order to kill off the independence cause once and for all. And not only that but obtain a mandate to say that the Union its' self has been democratically endorsed. But they don't. Because Unionism is not about democracy. It's about disenfranchising Scotland and not giving people here an equal say. This is not about closing up the border and never allowing English people into Scotland again. Thanks to the Schengen agreement most neighbouring European Countires now enjoy a free movement of people. Our ties with the English PEOPLE will be unaffected, the only change is we will no longer be dicated to from Westminister. Independence will be the democratic right to control the way our Country is run. That should be the democratic right of every people yet for the Scots it is not a reality. This demonstration is something that asks Scottish people to believe in their own ability to change and better their Country. If you believe you can play a part in that come along. Peever1745, Stujay, hope to see you on Saturday. |

Re: Independence 1st March
0002beahibby do you realise that Dougray Scott, who te quote on signature is from is an SSP supporter?
Given that the party supports independence and Saturday's march I would suspect that he would to. |

I use Dougray's quote because he's a Hibbie and thought it had a reasonance to it. Absolutely feck all to do with his politics, buddy.
