Children of Men

I would thoroughly recommend this film - the best, most intelligent film I have seen in ages. Distopian vision of UK in 2027 when no children have been born anywhere in the world for 18 years. Story of a man coming to terms with his past through sacrifice. Hard hitting, well acted, brilliantly directed. Moments of genuine brilliance.

Re: Children of Men

Excellent, rivetting film, Michael Caine steals the show (or the clips he's in anyway) imo.
Have to say though, that I believe society would have totally broken at the prospect of no more children.

Also the sight of the Pink Floyd pig flying over Battersea power station was a chuckle.

Word of the day award to arthurduncan.

For those of you, like me, who had to look it up:-

good to hear - it got slammed a bit in the newsnight review as being more of a car chase film than thought provoking and a bit disloyal to PD James' original book but then with a panel that includes a certain portillo I was never going to rely to much on its conclusions - will be sure to check it out now.

And an excellent word it is too.

I'm going to try to include into my next email to the brass at work. Possibly using the word and the movie as a parade (or an allegory??) to describe what will happen if they don't get more fecking staff in!

That's fair enough and probably why I like it - it's not thoughtful in the slow dull, arthouse sense but in a slightly more pacy, thriller sense. I personally can't bear Newsnight Review so no bad thing they didn't like it. Very interested to know what you and others think.

Re: Children of Men

My cousin worked on this film. While doing so he said he thought might turn out to be absolute crap, so I'd be pleased if he was proved wrong.

I certainly enjoyed Cuaron's other films, but this is rather different subject matter from Mexican teenagers and boy wizards.

Re: Children of Men

Just seen it. Pretty good if you like that sort of thing. I found the story only vaguely interesting, but there's lots of cool dystopian nightmare stuff going on in the background.

Also did anyone notice the scene where they're firing the ping pong balls into each other's mouth - there's a really long shot from inside the car just before the attempted hijacking where Clive Owen and the rest of them are pissing around. Where is the
