I sat down last night around 7.30 and picked up "The Retreat of Reason" as recommended by your good self. My initial reaction when I started reading it was that this could be a bit heavy. At 12.20 when I stopped I realised I had read the whole thing in one sitting.

It was an enthralling insight into the mans view point and despite the occassional trip to dictionary corner (having never heard the word ameliate before for instance) I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

His comments got me thinking to a time not so long ago when I was coming home from work. It was blisteringly hot and some of my mates were sitting outside the pub. They told me they thought this weather was great, I responded by saying that we Scots were not designed to sit in this heat, and that had we been, our skin would be a lot darker. Almost to a man my mates accused me of racism...I pointed out that I was only stating a fact..people who come from really hot climates tend to have darker skin colouring because nature has evolved that pigmentation as a protection against the sun. I was being reasoned not racist but no-one could seem to grasp that. Sorry to prattle on but reading the book brought the memory up.

Anyway, cheers for the recommendation EGB I really enjoyed reading this book.....

glad you enjoyed it mate. the massive gaps in logic and reason it points out are both terrifying and hilarious.
