The thing is, it is such a long time since i actually went out in Edinburgh other than to go to my usual places like the Lune Town in William St or Viva Mexico off Cockburn St. so i'm looking for ideas of places to take my wife while were there.
Any ideas would be welcome and reasons why.

Cheers

This place is superb. Food and setting, with a view of the Castle etc. Cheap it is not, but it is a romantic place and one of the best. But that's just my opinion.

The Witchery, next to the Castle, is very romantic. Lovely little booths, nice and dark so you can, ahem, rekindle the passion.
But mind your gold card

Failing that, you're more than welcome in the Fountain. Just a few
minutes walk from the Sheraton. All the pool games you want and
take in a boxing match or two

I'd second that. Great view of the city and top class scran.

The Santini restaurant which is part of the Sheraton is a very nice italian restaurant. the service is exceptional and the food is fantastic, its also not even that expensive considering its part of the sheraton.

Enjoy

Re: Ideas please!!

It's not exactly posh (no where near it) but I really like the mexican on Victoria Street - staff are really friendly and create a lively atmosphere. Not exactly a romantic meal so wouldn't suggest it as the focal point of the weekend, but is decent food, reasonable prices and slap bang in the centre of town if you're stopping off on the way elsewhere (and seeing as you mentioned Viva Mexico it may be similar food in a slightly different setting).

Edit - if you're looking for a romantic meal suggestion, I'd also suggest The Witchery - went there for my sisters wedding "reception" (family meal) and the food was lovely, service great and the setting in the restaurant was fantastic - they then went back and stayed over on their first wedding anniversary and again had a lovely time which was no doubt much more romantic without the rest of the family there.

Its a toss up as they all look yummy and quite romantic
