Secret Societies - The Golden Dawn

I'm after reading that The Golden Dawn (secret society which was into magic, hocus-pocus and whatnot:Alistair Crowley was a leading light) had a base in Edinburgh when it went out of existence in 1904.

Anyone else aware of this? Furaboots was the 'base'???

No knowledge of this at all, but would be most interested to hear anything about it. Golden Dawn was the name of my uncle's boat.

Interesting stuff. Crowley was as mad as a hatter of course. I believe Boleskine House on Loch Ness (where he is reputed to have summoned demons) was bought by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. Another fruitcake.

Seems that an Embra man tried to take control of the movement at one point.

And this says that the 'Amen-Ra Temple #6 in Edinburgh, Scotland was not founded until 1893.'

There's a ton of stuff online, many of the articles mentioning Embra.

I was a bit concerned when I posted this thread about 'Golden Dawn' that you'd mentioned some of the movies the jarheads used to watch on R&R

get hold of the illuminati documentary. very good if you like conspiricy theories etc. there is a bit on the golden dawn plenty on the freemasons and george w bushes very own skull and bones. otherwise google search "illuminati" on google video and there is some stuff similar to these secret societys. whats scary is that a lot a these societys were formed in edinburgh and the KKK was formed from scottish decendants.

Yeats was admitted into the Golden Dawn in March 1890, taking the name Festina Lente, but after attaining Adeptus Minor, he changed it to Demon est Deus inversus (D.E.D.I. for shorthand) translated as Devil is the reverse of God, this name being taken from the writings of Madame Blavatsky in which she discussed that "...even that divine Homogeneity must contain in itself the essence of both good and evil."

Yeats was an active recruiter for the Golden Dawn's Isis-Urania temple, bringing in George Pollexfen (his uncle) and Florence Farr. He eventually left the Golden Dawn when it became embroiled in in-fighting and power struggles. The final straw came in a stand-off with Occultist Aleister Crowley.

I suppose the KKK was born of the kind of thinking created with old-fashioned consernative Scots Presybertian ethics go very badly wrong.

It's no coincidence that, they say, County Antrim in NI (almost totally Presybertian) has the highest concentration of freemasons by population in Europe.

I've always just assumed that tweedy old Presbyterians like rules and having wee secrets.
