Why?

Never a right back but IMO a very good player going forward.

He's done very well in a good Ecuadar side.

From playing Kilmarnock 4 times a season to going to Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, ouch some bump down to earth.

I like De La Cruz. An extremelly skillfull version of Whittaker that has the ability to score against Hearts before the 37th second of a game.

Try to sitting on the bench at OT and Stamford Bridge - he never played much! Mind you, paid thousands, weekends off and free into games - not a bad life!!!

Re: De La Cruz Signed For Reading

Any time a player leaves Hibs it's a step down in my opinion. And so what about Stamford Bridge etc, big deal, he was a decent player in a crap Aston Villa team. I was never that attached to the guy anyway. I do remember him scoring a great goal against the gunts in 30 seconds. But apart from that he was easily forgettable.

Re: De La Cruz Signed For Reading

I thought Ulises De La Cruz done well for Hibs. His pace was phenomenal, and he created loads of goals in the season he was at Easter Road. He was a winger though, never a defender.

I think a lot of the problems he had at Easter Road arose from the hype about him before he arrived. He was being touted as some sort of Ecuadorian Pele, so when he arrived and didn't beat 5 players before scoring in games, he was seen as a flop.

An established English Premiership club in the shape of Aston Villa paid £2 Million for him. He has since played 100 games for them, and has now signed for another Premiership club, Reading. He has also played in two World Cups.

A very good player, just not the genius we were told to expect by the EEN amongst others.

Re: De La Cruz Signed For Reading

He was (is) a player that I thought was played out of position.
Like others, I believed that he would be better employed as an out and out winger.
However, he failed to either perform there, or get played there by guys who presumably know more about fitba than me.
Conclusion: he wasn't as good as I thought.

Stuffed the Gunts tho' and brought in a few quid when he moved (which was the real plan hatched by Judas), so still a fond memory.
