Should Hampden Park be replaced? Sign the petition!

Do you want Hampden Park replaced?

My friend and I were talking about Hampden the other day, and basically how it is so crud in comparison to many other national stadiums around Europe, and in particular, the new Wembley, and the Millenium Stadium. We both said that Hampden should simply be demolished and started from scratch.

I have put together a petition and hopefully, if it can get enough names, we MIGHT get some kind of progress (yes, I doubt they will knock it down tomorrow and build a new stadium but if they know the public are not happy, and in big numbers, they may have a rethink at least).

The place is an absolute joke and an embarrassment and I would urge you all to sign the petition whether you believe it will have an effect or not. I GUARANTEE I will send this to the SFA and any other bodies people can suggest, this is NOT just a token gesture that I will end up doing nothing with.

Not for me.

Money needs to be put into the grassroots of Scottish Football. I would actually tear it down and sell off the land with all profits poured into a youth fund.

Finals and Internationals could be played at any of the grounds in the country.

id agree with smurf here, the future of scottish fitba is with the youngsters and the £ should be spent there,

kinda like the situation at er, do you

a) knock down the east stand, make a fancy new stand that is never sold out as we have no promising young players, or

b) invest in the young players to give us quality and exciting players for the future???

i know what id pick.

what is it that you hate about hampden??

the population of scotland is tiny compared to that of england, they need a large ( and very costly stadium ) scotland play many friendlies at smaller grounds as there isnt enough public interest, why would we need a larger stadium??

Hampden has lost its atmosphere since redevelopment but the Scotland Team don't merit the investment.

Re: Should Hampden Park be replaced? Sign the petition!

No chance it'll happen. Hampden is already considered in the elite of European football stadia being 1 of only 20 stadia that have been given the full 5 star rating. The stadium has been highly commended by UEFA, particularly because of the underground road and the indoor warm up pitch.

UEFA's approval of Hampden is reflected by the fact it will host this season's UEFA Cup Final just 5 years after hosting the Champions League Final.

It also does very well commercially with the 7 levels of offices and function rooms getting used every day by other companies. Even as I type I can hear The Charlatans who are supporting the Stones there tonight.

They should've brought the ends in but it's too late now. You're wasting your time sending your petition to the SFA, it's Queens Park FC who own the stadium and I think they'd need to do a bit more than knock Aberdeen out the League Cup to finance what you're looking for!

No, the SFA formed a company called Hampden Park Ltd and they've leased Hampden and take responsibility for running it but it still belongs to Queens Park.

Re: Should Hampden Park be replaced? Sign the petition!

hampden is a tip. it only has one good stand. the other 3 are basically the old terraces seated and covered. shite visibility behind the goals and the big semi circles behind each goal ruin atmosphere a bit. they should play big scotland games at hunbrox or parkhead and move the smaller games around.

The stadium's only real use is to provide a local neutral venue for old firm cup semis and finals, and it is NOWHERE near big enough for that. It needs axed or completely renovated and it'scapacity drastically increased, save for the new stand.

mind you i'm suing them for a fortune at the moment so they might not be able to afford too

I signed the petition, the seats behind the goals are to far away from the pitch

I'd agree with that and the rake of the seats is too shallow for a ground of this size - could loose the running track, too.

I once supported a really good Scotch band called Simple Minds at Hampden Park a few years ago, and it was the best gig of my life.

Happy memories.

God bless you all.

Well in that case Queens Park can keep it and we'll build a new stadium in a more convenient location for those that live outside of Rutherglen!
