Guaranteed to be a yam freezone. Only drawback is there is no shop or food outlet of any kind so it is bring yer own for the day.

I have wanted to go to St Kilda for years, the yams have created the opportunity.

Is this the day trip Ian? Was trying to get on one when I'm up on the May Day weekend but fully booked by the looks of things. £120 but well worth it IMHO!

I've done a strange thing and swapped my day-off with a Jambo so he can go to the final.I know, it's feckin stupid thing to do, but I had a momentary lapse in reason.

Aye that's the one. I know sometimes they lay on a second trip if there is sufficient demand.

have a good day Ian, May will be a good time to visit as well as being a great time to leave mainland scotland - the seabirds (gannets but also puffins, guillemots, tysties, razorbills etc) should all be about by then and that IMHO is as much the wonder of st kilda as the cliffs and the cultural heritage. You get enough time ashore for a good hike out to Dun (lots of puffins here), across the top of Connachair and out to the End of the World for a great view of Borerary, its steep and you have to keep moving reasonably quickly but its worth it and dont worry you will have enough time to look through the village at the end too. If you run out of time its pretty easy to bail out and get down to the village - its well worth the effort - watch the bonxies though - dont let them sneak up on you from behind, they wont hit you as long as they know you can see them (they will come close though - it just takes a wee bit of getting used to).

I can send you some free booklets etc on st kilda if you're interested but wont be back on the islands until 2 May....if you make it further north give us a shout for a pint

best of luck

Cheers, we are looking forward to it. I will pm you in due course for the booklets, that would be great. We will be in Stornoway on the Sunday, back to Skye courtesy of cal mac on the monday. I had the notion to come across in my wee fishing boat from Skye but I don't think it is made for a minch crossing although my neighbour makes it to Rodel in his rib.

I used a wee double Dunkeld on the point for 90% of my drift fishing, absolutely deadly in its own right and excellent for weighing down the cast to let you dibble the bob fly in the waves.

Used Green Peter occasionally but it was much more often a Bibio or Blue Zulu, especially when I stayed in Caithness. I love loch fishing and miss it woefully.

I find the wee dunkeld does the business in any highland loch that holds quarter pounders. I'll need to give the double a try. It was fishing in Orkney that I first came across the green peter. I don't think the Irish use it on the bob but the Orcadians do, using a very bushy pattern retrieved quickly across the water.
