I don't think England will get any further than the semi's at best. Michael Owen (their one truly world class player IMO) is a major injury doubt,and there must also be questions about Ashley Cole's fitness and Sol Campbell's state of mind. Not the best preparations for a World Cup. They have a decent midfield and forwards, but I don't rate their defence much or their goalkeeper. As a team they are nowhere near as good as the media hype them up to be. Rooney's big test will be how he copes against genuine top class teams, unlike most of the sides he plays against in England. He is a talented lad, but his temperament is suspect and I think teams will play on that.
I also think Ericksonn is too cautious, and this has cost England games in the past. Brazil have the best players in the world, and the mental attitude to go with it. I'm struggling to see past them TBH. I think it will be either Brazil, with outside bets Argentina or Italy.

I've went for the Germans.

imho international football is as weak as it has ever been, which can only be good for england.
however i think brazil are head and shoulders above them, and are my pick to win it, although my preference - amongst teams that have a chance - would be italy.

Brazil. Ill be lumping money on them at 11/4. Not a great price but I cant see past them.
England - not a chance. Lampard and Terry are the only world class players. If your looking for outsiders then the Czech republic.

Argentina showed England a masterclass in the friendly England won but England got Jammy with late goals. One of which should of been a penalty to Argentina at the other end then England went straight up and scored. Would love Argentina to win to shove it right down Englands throats after their reaction to that game but i think Brazil will win it

I'd like to see Brasil win it, but I just cannot see it happening...their two stick-on centre forwards underperforming with their clubs, Dida having a dodgy season,Ronaldinho panning his **** in at Barca playing too many games and a less than convincing back four. All that said, it is the World Cup and it is Brasil, so you never know.
I'm looking forward to seeing Riquelme & Messi playing for Argentina, so hope they improve on the last WC. But I'll be quaffing Peroni,Valpolicella & dopio espresso's, eating Pasta al forno & gellati whilst wearing some Gucci loafers and an Armani jumper casually drapped over my shoulders and cheering on the Azzuri |
