Museums and the like will often let you in for free or a reduced price if you contact in advance. Picnics are good... oh aye yer in Scotland, eh?

Nature walks are great especially if you can get a park ranger or expert naturalist to talk them through it, kids love that. Fishing is good for the boys, but some girls might be bored or disgusted. Also gardening can be good fun if you have access to a wee plot somewhere; start it now and the seeds will be up in summer. Organised sports is always a possibility, and on windy days kite flying/kite fighting is fun. The seaside is always great in sunny weather. Hmm, I'll try and think of more.

The National Museum on Chamber Street is free and good. How about asking for a tour of ER? Not sure how much they charge. Historic Scotland have open days where you can visit their castles etc. free of charge, could be worth checking out when the next one is.

This weekend, I believe. Emma suggested a wee trip out on sunday too some bloody castle or museum.Needless to say, yet more brownie points lost with the wife, and duly contributed to the HFC cause.

cheers people, the tour of ER appeals to me very much but as we are in perth its a bit of a trek and the bus is too expensive. a lot of the kids are either celtic or rangers supporters because they are the teams that are always winning but each week i give them more info bout hibs and its been great up until the last couple of months bcos we have been doing so well, kids are back to slagging me on a monday morning1!
