Faults in the Scottish Parliament

[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

Almost 900 faults were found in the Scottish Parliament building during final inspections to identify snags, it has emerged.

It has also been revealed that the chamber beam which came loose may not be covered by defects liability.

Independent MSP Margaret MacDonald said it had to be established whether the roof had been signed off and when.

She added: "But it is too early to say whether defects liability cover applies or whether another route for recovery would be taken.

This is a big nothing. The average house has around 50 defects at completion. There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding on the nature of defects liability as well - can't journalists get themselves a proper briefing?

Has Margo MacDonald ever said a positive word about the parliament yet? Is she still in a huff since they chose not to go to the Royal High?

Clearly, we have far too many MSPs per head of population.

Re: Faults in the Scottish Parliament

Now The Herald is at it. You would think that the journalist would pick up the phone and get someone to explain defects liability to him before writing this pish.

Holyrood only had one-year warranty... and time’s up

DOUGLAS FRASER, Scottish Political Editor (& Idiot in Chief)March 20 2006

The builders' warranty on the roof of Holyrood's debating chamber lasted only one year and ended two weeks before the notorious beam swung loose on March 2, it has been revealed.

He's getting confused. In most Building Contracts there is a one year "Defects Liability Period". A percentage of the contract value is held back during this period to cover the costs of making good any defects. The contractor is still liable for the defects after this date, its just not dealt with under the Building Contract but under civil laws of contract.
