Rebus

Enjoyed last night's episode - the wee ned thug was a Jambo so well observed.

Thought a lot of it (the scheme stuff) was filmed in Glasgow, though (Red Road flats area?) and the stairway were they had a few conversations was definately the old Govan Police Station which closed in 1999.

Not quite as silly as the last one with the art and the breaking into Easter Road.

Did anyone tape the Easter Road one? I missed it

I didn't enjoy last nights episode so much as the last episode. I would've waited on the MSP coming off the phone though..

Says it all though that the Schemie stuff was filmed in Glasgow

Re: Rebus

It was annoying that it was apparent that it was Glasgow. Knowing full well that it was supposed to be Edinburgh, it couldn't get my head away from thinking that it was Weedge. The refuse truck when they found the body was a GCC one too. A few too many ommisions in it. Never seen the end either - recording clash, so watched Prison Break for the first time.

Glasgow City Council have a very successful unit which finds locations for TV and film and helps them get all the necessary permits (e.g. road closures).

Re: Rebus

Suspect the fact that a lot of TV production companies are based in Glasgow results in filmng taking place there.

Remember the same happened in Bristol when I was working down there. Recall that unless a specifically Oxford locale was needed a lot of Morse was filmed in Bristol.

Not sure where they got Rebus as a Hibee from though. Just re-read A Good Hanging and it refers to following 'H*arts' as a teenager. No wonder he's got a drink problem!!!

Thought last nights was like the previous...little resemblance to the original book, which is a shame as Stott is perfect for the character.

CEC are quite good at providing similar allowances for filming, but as far as i'm aware they don't outwardly promote locations. Plus the cost for the filming allowances is fairly hefty compaired to through west so i believe.

GLA in London is very active in this as well. They recognise the potential positive international exposure you can get (remember Dr. Who's recent series - I think they managed to run past every major tourist landmark in the city at one point or other). Edinburgh is VERY photogenic and already has a very positive image developed through the Festival and New Year celebrations - I think, if properly managed, this could be enhanced further. Helps to promote tourism but also inward investment as it is easier to get staff to move to a beautiful city with a positive image.

Not sure what tax break they could offer but they could reduce their charges in reckognition of the medium to long term benefits of economic growth on property taxes. (Fat chance!!!)

I've only read one of the books but the missus has read them all and reckons the TV series is pretty poor. The books are mainly centred around character development rather than clever stories so maybe they don't translate well. Still better than Touch of Frost but not as good as Dalzeil and Pascoe et al.

I agree with you about the character development, was thinking instead of trying to shoehorn in a full book in one episode they could spread the story out a bit over a couple of episodes. At the moment the only charcter you know anything about is Rebus himself..it's a bit flimsy in that respect.

Noticed that last nights episode was adapted by Daniel Boyle..I'm presuming it's Danny Boyle who also directed Trainspotting, which I was also a bit disapointed with in the way it was adapted.

Edinburgh looks very special on telly.

You can kind of imagine Mr & Mrs Oxfordshire saying "Doesn't Edinburgh look wonderful?".

It should inform the watching millions that the horrible parts are filmed in Glasgow..

I've been in some poverty stricken deprived areas in my time - all over the country - and I've never seen deprivation like you get in Glasgow. Cranhill is about the worst place I've ever been - totally de-humanising environment.
