I've been to the bristo square one before, on that edinburgh 'doors open day'.

Very interesting, and very nice people.

Mind you, given their tradition for eschewing representative art, the decor was a bit plain and protestant for my romish tastes

Me and Scoobs went to the Dundee one on Doors Open day a couple of years back.
It was very interesting to see and the folk bent over backwards to make our visit interesting and informative.
We even got given sweeties, juice and crisps after our wee tour!

From our house we can hear (when the wind is in the right direction) the call to prayer every day. Quite nice on a balmy summer evening.

I went round it when it was being built. The view from the mineret is amazing.

Don't know who ran the project though. I've never seen something done in such an arse over tit fashion before or since. They were pissing money away.

It's a "sin" to make a graven image in christianity as well.

No I agree with that bit. It's a pick up from Judaism - because God made us in his image, and it was a sin to portray him in anyway it was therefore a sin to portray anyone at all - so they say. The geometric decoration is a straight pick-up from Pythagoreanism, which believed the work within and on those designs was a Devine persuit, them being numerologists.

Went to a Mosque in Tunisia once with a journalist guy showing me around. One interesting thing in that one was the Imam(sp?) was there to look after the Mosque only - no preaching or teaching from him. This is, according to the journalist guy, "proper" Islam - no one stands between the worshipper and Allah, ever. So all those Mad Fuck-Wit so called Mullahs who preach and teach hatred are putting themselves between the worshipper and God and will therefore go to the burny fire.

Right next door was the jail, packed with teenagers pissed from the night before doing a 48 hour stint. Tut-tutting Mums pushing wee food parcels through the bars at them as the jail gives them fuck all. Not as seedy or filthy as it might have been actually.

Just think of Afghanistan who locked woman indoors and cover their faces (ok Im sure you know a few who could do with that) but its not the religion of my choice Im afraid. Read that the reason a lot of ancient Greek/Roman statues were mutilated was by Moors/Saracens, as portrayal of the human form was banned. Judaism used to be the same.

Amazing a sci-fi book with laws in it. Apart from Aasimovs "laws of robotics", the bible (either OT or NT) must be the only others - counting them as two seperate books of course.
