Default Mark McGhee RIP

In memory of Mark McGhee who died in February 1982 after the Liberton Travel Hibs supporters bus toppled over on the road to Dundee. I was on that bus and I know some of the guys on the bounce were also.

Mark was 19 and a good hibby, who followed the Hibs home and away. The team and management etc were at his funeral, which I am sure he would have liked.

My his soul rest in peace and grant to him eternal rest.
Gone but not forgotten, even as the years go by.

Vinnie,

I also travelled on that unfortunate bus to Dundee. Mark was a good freind of my brother who was sitting beside him at the time the bus went over. It was a sad day to say the least. Mark was a bubbly young lad who loved the Hibs and was a fan of the ska scene who would turn up at games wearing his pork-pie hat.

As an ex-member of the Libby Travel, I remember that day very well. I consider myself very fortunate in that I actually missed the bus. I turned up late at Barton and ended up going to the match on another bus. On the way up we were diverted around the accident and later heard it was a Hibs bus that was involved. We were all shocked into silence. When I heard it was the Liberton bus and someone had died, it chilled me to the bone.

All the guys who used to travel on the Libby bus still talk about it to this day and the ones that knew Mark personally remember him fondly. I know there are a few guys on the BOUNCE who were there that day and will extend their best wishes to Marks family.

Colin

I was on the Uphall Hibs bus that day and right behind the Liberton Bus as it went over. I remember the look of fear on peoples faces as they tried to get out of the bus and us booting in windows to help.

Terrible day.
