Re: I like this man's thinking.

I could actually. I know this isnae the majority view but imo the role of prison should be for rehabilitation to stop people committing crimes when they get out. I can fully understand societies desire to mete out punishment, and to an extent I accept that. De-humanising people doesn't help with what I think should be the main point of prison though.

I'm also interested in how many folk who are so quick to criticise the prisons as being too easy have actually experienced it themselves, or know people who have? I know a few folk who have been in the jail, and every one of them have absolutely hated it.
My ex-girlfriends brother was in jail, on her first visit to him she was asked to take his PS2 and games, his CD player and a few other luxaries, He came out and after a month said 'i wish i was back in Greenock'

asked why he said it was alot easier to be in prison than out living in his own place, as he said, he had no responsability even for himself, That is not punishment or rehab,

on his release he was offered a place, furnished, also given extra money from the dole, and offered courses left right and centre so he could get a job, to aid him back into society, last i heard he was back in, for the same crime,

I agree that there should be a rehab element to prison, but there has to be the Punishment aspect aswell,
