You can't blame Dubai for wanting to develop tourism and finance, they are using their oil revenues to build an economy for the future when the oil dries up.
But the elite level this is taking place on is quite sickening. It will only ever be affordable to the megarich. Meanwhile half the world is starving.

It'll all end in tears when the balloon goes up.
Not entirely true. As more hotels get built out there supply will start to catch up with the demand making it one of the most accessable destinations in the world. They wouldnt build theme parks twice the size of Disney that can hold 200,000 people a day just for the mega-rich.
In 10 years dubai will be bigger than Florida and cost much the same for an average family, but the standard of hotels, parks and weather will be better.

I was there last year and loved everything about it, the hotel was easily the best hotel I've ever stayed and the cost was about the same as a similar hotel in New York or Paris.Cant wait to go back in October.
