I was watching the Hibs-Celtc game on Sunday..
...in a fairly rampant Celtic bar in Belfast. Lovely people in there and very accommodating to Hibby needs, however they can be a bit patronising. Never mind.
Anyway, as the second goal sunk in (and took our UEFA dreams with it), a load of the younger lads started to laugh and do the whole "smaller cousins" thing. Which really annoys me. I get on fairly well with most of them, but being patronised by kids who weren't even there to watch the Celtc match (they were hanging on for the Man. Utd - Wigan match afterwards. Wigan?! WIGAN!?!?!) coupled with the fact we'd just lost to an OF side made me slightly tetchy.
I turned round to one of them and said "Smaller cousins? But your side's full of Hibbys. Still, it's good to see original Hibs players back in original Hibs strips, even if they are being worn by the dark side"
Not one of them understood. Not one. I couldn't be arsed explaining what I meant and liked seeing their confused faces, so I didn't.
At the end of the game, and this is the really amusing bit, they all stood up and gave a rendition of "Hail, Hail". Which, of course, includes the line "And if you know your history".
The irony escaped them. But I was laughing my arse off.
Fcuking pancakes.
