I'd agree with the writer totally about Conor Oberst. There isnt any other singer songwriter who can match Dylan, but Oberst comes closest. Think I've got almost everything that Oberst/Bright Eyes has recorded - and its a massive back catalogue already - and he's recorded over a hundred great songs already. And he's still only 27. The guy kicks ass.

Firstly, thanks for mentioning this guy as I've never heard of him. I've just had a wee listen and it sounds like my cup of tea. Interesting lyrics too. Obviously, I can't seriously compare someone I've just heard to the likes of Dylan, Springsteen or whoever. "100 great songs" is a big claim in my book.
I'll certainly give his stuff a closer and more extensive listen but I always take these sorts of claims with a pinch of salt and don't see the point of such comparisons in general. I respect your opinion and understand it's not based on flavour of the month, but you can't blame me for being sceptical when music journos come out with this kind of thing all the time. Remember around '95 when people were seriously asking if Oasis were better than the Beatles? Just about everyone, bar the Gallagher brothers themselves, would now be embarrassed by such a question.

Maybe in ten years time we can ask if Oberst is on a par with these kind of names. By the way, he looks like a young Townes Van Zandt in that photo, don't you think?
