The Department of Health is to consider a mass vaccination of children in England against chickenpox.

Folk used to have chickenpox parties in the (recent) past. I got a mild case as a child but mine wee boy hasn't caught it yet.

Can be serious in adults.
Could be wrong here, but I think that quite a number of other countries vaccinate (at least partly) because chickenpox infection can result in meningitis in rare cases. It's a form of meningitis which isn't prevented by the current vaccination programme. (I think. Could be wrong).
