One of my laddies has been reading Thierry Henry's biography, written by some Anglo sports journo telling the tale of the French superstar's rise to meteoric fame.

The wee man is sitting quietly perusing the pages when he suddenly stops. At page 21 (in case any of our dissident players are interested).

On P21 the strengths and weaknesses of the young Henry were being debated - at this point the player was at Monaco under Arsene Wenger for the first time.

Who did the journo interview for an appraisal of his team mate?

JC states that whilst Henry was undoubtedly a fabulous prospect he - at that time - did not have what it would take to allow the rise to the top that he has subsquently had.

JC's appraisal was that Henry was too one sided a player and could only turn defenders one way - a droit. He credits Henry's dedication, willingness to learn good habits and hard work for him becoming the two footed tormenter he has become. JC credits Wenger for giving Henry the right attitudes to training and work ethic - and Henry for using the training ground to develop his talents.

Now is this arrogance on the part of JC, daring to appraise an illustrious team mate honestly?

Or is it simply the honesty and intelligence of a man with the same principles learned at Monaco too?

One day I may yet read Cristiano Ronaldo or Steven Gerrard's biography with an appraisal from Steven Whittaker...

aye right.

To some it may seem arrogance but, having listened to JC giving his post match interviews & summarising on various televised football matches it is the kind of opinion he gives honestly & without malice.
As for Ronaldo or Gerrard having their biography appraised by Whittaker?
Seems a little gauche to me.....
