Hiddleston deliberately ran the club down. He paid players late, sold good players for peanuts, no water for showers, unreliable transport to away games.
A Board of Trade inquiry came to the conclusion that Hiddleston had effectively run the club into the ground, making it totally unattractive. He undoubtedly had plans to sell Cathkin for houses. As Pilrig says, the bastard avoided justice by dying.
If you're ever in the Hampden area, it is well worth a visit to stand on the old terracing. If you close your eyes, raise your head and listen very carefully you may faintly hear a wee ned asking his 'bawbag' pal for a light.
